Free planning tools for contractor websites

Four small tools that turn the advice in our guides into something you can keep: a page plan, a form specification, an area spreadsheet and a set of project captions. Each runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing to us.

The four tools

Using a tool

Fill in the questions, press the button, and the result appears below the form: a plan, a specification, a table or a set of captions. You can download the result as a text file or spreadsheet, or copy it.

The work happens in your browser using JavaScript in the page itself. Nothing you type is sent to our server, saved in cookies or kept after you close the tab. If you want to keep what you made, download it before leaving the page. The privacy notice says the same.

If JavaScript is turned off, the forms still display so you can read through the questions, but the result will not appear.

Which tool to start with

  • Planning a new site or a rebuild? Start with the website project planner. It produces a list of pages, notes on coverage and the gaps to fill before launch.
  • Unhappy with your enquiry form? The quote form planner goes through the fields one by one and writes a draft privacy notice.
  • Cover several towns? The service area planner tests each one against four questions and suggests which deserve their own page.
  • Finished a job? The project caption builder drafts a page title, photo captions and alt text, and keeps a permission record.

Limits of the tools

They are planning aids, not audits. None of them looks at your existing website, checks your search rankings or tests your form. They apply the rules of thumb explained in the guides and leave the decisions to you.

The suggestions they make, such as when an area deserves its own page or which form fields to make optional, are starting points based on the reasoning in the guides. Your own knowledge of your business and customers should win where they disagree.

Accessibility

Every tool can be used with a keyboard alone, with visible focus, labelled fields and results announced to screen readers. If something does not work for you, the accessibility statement explains how to tell us.
