House rules
Editorial policy
Every guide is checked against primary sources, every source is labelled as primary, secondary or commercial, and every correction is dated. This page explains how that works and how the site keeps its commercial interest separate from its advice.

Who writes the content
Guides, tools and service pages are written and edited by Christopher Lee, the pen name used by the site's writer and editor. No content is published under a made-up expert profile, and no credentials are claimed on his behalf.
How sources are chosen
We prefer the body that sets a rule or publishes the data:
- Primary sources include Google Search Central, the W3C and its accessibility guidance, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, the Commerce Commission, MBIE's Consumer Protection and building.govt.nz pages, Inland Revenue and the Department of Internal Affairs.
- Secondary sources are reliable summaries of primary material, used only when a primary source is not available or is unclear.
- Commercial sources are businesses publishing their own prices or views. We use them sparingly, label them, and say what they are used for, such as one company's published observation about New Zealand website costs.
Each guide lists its sources at the end of the page, with the grade of each one.
Off limits
- statistics, survey results or percentages without a source we have read
- invented case studies, reviews, testimonials or client numbers
- claims about rankings, traffic or enquiries that a website will produce
- legal advice; guides explain what official guidance says and suggest checking specifics with a professional
Examples on the site are labelled as fictional and use no real business names.
How guides are checked
Before a guide is published, each statement that relies on a source is checked against the live page. When a rule changes, such as the Privacy Act's new IPP3A from 1 May 2026, the affected guides are updated and their dates changed. Guides are also reviewed against their sources when they are edited for any other reason.
Corrections
If we find a mistake, or someone tells us about one, we check it against the source. If it is wrong, we fix it, change the updated date and, where the correction changes the meaning of advice, add a short note at the end of the guide saying what changed. Email corrections to hello@contractovix.site.
Commercial interest
The site has a commercial interest in website work, set out in the disclosure at the foot of every page. That interest does not decide what the guides recommend. Where a business owner can do something themselves, the guides say how. Where a smaller fix would do, the service pages say so.
The tools are free, collect nothing and do not require contact details.
Links to other sites
We link to official sources so readers can check them. Links to commercial sites are made only where they are cited, and we receive nothing for them. We do not accept payment for links, reviews or mentions.
Artificial intelligence
Drafting tools may be used to help with structure or wording, but every statement is checked by a person against its source before publication, and no figures, quotes or examples are generated and published without that check.
